Five Challenges in Plastic Mould Industry
1. Unbalanced development and low overall level of products.
Although the products of individual enterprises have reached or are close to the international advanced level, overall, there is still a large gap between the precision of the mold, the roughness of the cavity surface, the production cycle, life span and other indicators compared with the advanced level of foreign countries.
2. Craft and equipment are backward, accompanied with poor ability in organization and coordination.
Although some enterprises have already possessed relatively advanced technological equipment through technological transformation in recent years, which help some foreign-funded enterprises catch up with enterprises in foreign countries, most enterprises are still relatively backward in regard to technological equipment standard. More importantly, poor organization and coordination ability of enterprises make it difficult to integrate or mobilize social resources for their own use, thus making it difficult to undertake relatively large projects.

3. Most enterprises have poor performance in development and innovation.
On the one hand, the proportion of technicians is low and the standard is not high enough. On the other hand, the investment in scientific research and development is low. What is more important is that the concept is backward and not enough attention is paid to innovation and development. Mold enterprises should not only attach importance to mold development, but also pay attention to product innovation.
4. The contradiction between supply and demand is difficult to ease in the short term.
In recent years, satisfaction rate of Chinese-made plastic molds in mainland market has been less than 74%, of which the satisfaction rate of large, precise and long-life molds is even lower, estimated to be less than 60%. At the same time, the industrialized countries are accelerating the transfer of moulds products to China, with more and more international purchases and a promising international market prospect. Market demand is strong, while the production efficiency is difficult to keep up for a while. As a result, the situation of short supply will continue for some time.
5. It will take some time to solve the problem of system and shortage of talents.
Competitive industries, especially industries like moulds, which depend on special users and require single-piece manufacturing, have increasingly lent itself to the socialist market economy, without the original system and operation mechanism such as state-owned and collective ownership. Meanwhile, the number and quality of talents cannot catch up with the rapid development of the mold industry.
