The Segment Ball Valve is designed for flow control and can also be used for shut-off operations. The notched port of the segment ball generates strong shear stress, enabling it to cut through media containing fibers and particles. This makes the Segment Ball Valve ideal for general control applications, particularly in pulp and paper processes or other industries where the flow contains fibrous or particulate materials. The V-port ball valve, featuring either a 'V' shaped ball or seat, offers more controlled opening and closing, providing a flow characteristic closer to linear. As the valve opens, the small end of the 'V' opens first, allowing stable flow control at this stage. This design requires a more robust construction due to the higher fluid velocities, which could otherwise damage a standard valve.
