The Segment Ball Valve is primarily designed for flow control and can also serve in shut-off applications. Its notched port enhances shear stress, allowing it to cut through media containing fibers and particles. As a result, this valve is an excellent general-purpose control valve, offering an equal percentage flow characteristic, making it ideal for pulp and paper processing and other applications involving fiber- and particle-laden flow.
A V-port ball valve, featuring either a 'V'-shaped ball or a 'V'-shaped seat, provides more controlled opening and closing of the orifice, offering a flow characteristic closer to linear. Upon valve closure, the small end of the 'V' opens first, ensuring stable flow control during the initial stage. This design requires a more robust construction to withstand higher fluid velocities, which could damage standard valves.
