TAC Polarized Lens

  TAC polarized lens is one of the most widely known main products in the eyewear industry. The materials of TAC is light, thin, function of polarization and high matching, outstanding characteristics of compatible with a variety of lens substrate(CR-39/PA/PC/AC/glass), making it one of the most popular raw material in the market.

  In 1928, Mr.Rand from Polaroid of USA made the first polarizing film. In 1939, he invented the manufacturing method which is still in use today. With the continuous development of society, the function of polarizing film has been widely used. Making the natural light become polarized(sun lens) filtering through the polarizing film, flakes of optical functional materials(detection equipment) that generate and detect polarized light, key components of LCD display(image of LCD screen).
 Main materials of TAC:
 TAC
 The application history of esterification cellulose film is more than a century, the raw material is from wood fiber, which is the stretch of the paper industry, including plasticizer, latent solvent, wetting agent, lubricating agent and ultraviolet resistant agent and so on. It can effectively resist cuttings, baking, bent and withstand the test of bad environment. TAC is grinded into film. And it is still one of the most penetrating polymer materials. Although in the history of polarizing board development, once there was a new transparent plastic material show up, they try to replace TAC, but it couldn't exceed more than 93% the light penetration of TAC, so TAC couldn't be replaced by other materials.
  PVA
  The main properties of PVA are decided by the degree of alcoholysis and polymerization of the molecules that make up the resin
(1)Water soluble:soluble in water, insoluble in almost all organic solvent.
(2)Viscosity of aqueous solution: The viscosity of aqueous solution of PVA varies with temperature of the degree of polymerization. It is lower than other water-soluble polymers.
(3)Film-making property: PVA aqueous solution is easy to form film, and the skin film is superior to physical properties such as tensile strength.
(4)Hygroscopicity: PVA skin membrane is lower than hygroscopicity,with the change of humidity, it's smaller than other water-soluble polymers.
   At present, Japaneses Kuraray and synthetic chemistry occupy the most majority of PVA market. The famous TAC suppliers include IPI from Germany, Fujifilm and Konica Minolta from Japan, also Lucky and Alme from China. In those suppliers, Germany IPI is most favored by the industry for it's excellent quality.
 Manufacturing technique:
   PVA needs to be stretched before fitting, the stretching process of PVA can be divided into dry and wet process. Dry process is stretching under the condition of steam with certain temperature and humidity, which can improve the production efficiency of the process. However, the uniformity of PVA membrane tensile is not well controlled, and it's durability is not stable. The wet rule is to dye in a certain proportion of liquid. This method can improve the utilization ratio of the product, but the PVA membrane is prone to fracture during processing.
   PVA membrane dyeing process is divided into iodine-based and dye-based, iodine-based has characteristics of high transmittance and high degree of polarization, not resistant to high temperature and high humidity. At present, most of the polarizers used in the lens industry are iodine-based while the dye-based is on the opposite, it has poor optical properties but high temperature resistance and high humidity performance. In the past two years, a small number of supplier have applied it to lenses.
   Before bonding, TAC needs to be alkali treated, then adjusted for acid-base neutralization, until finally dried and rewound for TAC polarizing substrate bonding.
   In the process of TAC bonding with PVA, PVA would be stained first, extended and dried before bonding with TAC. After the final drying treatment to form the final polarizing substrate. It's called polarizing film in the market.
 Application of polarized light film in lens industry:
   TAC polarizing lens: re-processed and laminated on the basis of the  original polarized film, with UV400 protective film layer and PE protective film layer. Then it produces the lens with good toughness and light texture. which can effectively resist cutting, baking and bending.
