A soft seated ball valve is a quarter-turn rotary isolation valve that utilizes thermoplastic seat rings, such as PTFE, RPTFE, PEEK, or Devlon, to achieve a bubble-tight, Class VI zero-leakage seal. The inherent plasticity of the polymer allows it to conform perfectly to the ball surface under line pressure. Because these polymers have a naturally low coefficient of friction, the valve operates with low torque, allowing for smaller, more economical actuator sizing. However, their use is strictly limited to clean, non-abrasive media, as abrasive particulates can easily score the soft polymer and destroy the seal.
