A single disc check valve (frequently configured as a single disc wafer check valve) is a compact, automatic non-return valve engineered with a single pivoting disc anchored to a hinge pin to permit unidirectional fluid flow and prevent system backflow. Operating entirely on pipeline kinetics, forward fluid velocity forces the disc to swing outward into an open position, creating an efficient flow channel with low pressure drop; the moment the fluid velocity decelerates to zero, gravity and reverse pressure slam the disc back against the valve seat to form a leak-tight boundary before reverse flow can propagate. It features an extremely short face-to-face dimension that fits compactly between pipeline flanges, drastically reducing overall structural weight, structural footprint, and piping support loads compared to traditional swing check valves.
