A double-seated control valve (or double-port valve) is an automated, linear-motion regulating valve featuring two internal plugs and matching seats on a top-and-bottom guided stem. This dual-port design splits the process fluid path so that the upstream pressure acts upward on one plug while simultaneously pressing downward on the other, creating a pressure-balanced trim that neutralizes net stem forces and allows smooth throttling against high differential pressures with minimal actuator torque. Because the dual ports undergo slightly different thermal expansion rates, achieving a bubble-tight shutoff is mechanically difficult, resulting in a higher permissible leakage rate than single-seated alternatives; however, it delivers a 20% to 50% higher flow capacity along with a fast, sensitive flow response.
