An offset butterfly valve (encompassing double-offset and triple-offset designs) is a high-performance rotary valve where the stem is positioned behind and to one side of the disc center line to create an eccentric rotation path. This geometric offset causes the disc to lift immediately off the resilient or laminated metal seat upon opening, completely eliminating the continuous friction and seat wear common to standard concentric butterfly valves. When closing, the camming action cams the disc securely into the seat to achieve a bubble-tight, zero-leakage seal with low operating torque. Offset butterfly valves are highly specified for high-velocity water distribution lines, steam utility networks, and critical process throttling applications.
