A metal seat ball valve is a severe-service quarter-turn rotary valve engineered for extreme temperatures up to 600°C, high pressures, and abrasive media. Breaking from soft-seated designs that rely on polymer seals like PTFE, it features direct metal-to-metal contact between the spherical ball and the valve seats. To prevent galling under continuous mechanical friction, both the ball and seat rings are hardfaced with advanced wear-resistant coatings (such as Stellite, tungsten carbide, or chromium carbide) and precision-lapped to ensure a high-integrity tight shutoff. The valve uses spring-loaded seat assemblies to maintain constant mechanical contact against the ball, automatically compensating for thermal expansion and line pressure fluctuations.
