Connecting Rod Bolt for Engine Connecting Rod Assembly
Key Specifications / Features
The connecting rod bolt is a critical fastener in the engine connecting rod assembly. It precisely connects the big end of the connecting rod and the bearing cap. Subjected to enormous alternating tensile loads during high-speed reciprocating motion, accurate control of its preload is the core to guarantee engine assembly quality and operational reliability.
Detail Information
Torque Requirement:
Tightening torque of connecting rod bolts is a core parameter for assembly. Requirements vary for different vehicle models, engines and bolt specifications. Never tighten by experience.
Generally, the torque for connecting rod bolts of gasoline engines is around 100N·m, while that of diesel engines can reach about 200N·m. For example, bolts of M11, M12 and M14 have different safe torque ranges.
Installation Procedure:
A standardized installation procedure is critical. A torque wrench is normally required. Tighten to the specified value in several steps alternately in sequence (e.g. from the middle to both sides).
Maintenance & Replacement:
Connecting rod bolts are high-strength, high-fatigue components. Many designs with cotter pins or lock tabs are single-use parts. After engine overhaul or bearing failure accidents, thorough inspection is required. Replace bolts once deformation or cracks are found. Pair replacement is recommended; do not mix old and new bolts.
