The Importance of the Control Valve
On this page
The control valve is used to control the flow of the manipulated variable, so it is called the control valve, also known as the regulating valve. For the control system, it is dependent on the regulating valve whether the control system functions well or not. And a control valve plays a critical role for the following reasons.

1. The control valve is a throttling device, belonging to a dynamic component. The regulating valve needs to constantly vary the flow area of the throttling element, so as to change the manipulated variable to adapt to the variation in loads or in operating conditions. Therefore, higher requirements are needed for the sealing, pressure resistance and corrosion resistance of control valve components.

2. The moving parts of the regulating valve are the main reasons for its leakage, which not only wastes resources or materials, but also pollutes the environment and causes accidents.

The contact medium of the control valve material may be different from that of the detecting element, so higher requirements are needed for the corrosion resistance, strength and rigidity of the regulating valve.

3. The regulating valve consumes energy inside the valve. Thus, consideration should be given to both energy consumption reduction and better flow control.

4. When the control valve controls the fluid flow, it also causes noise. For example, when the outlet pressure of the valve is lower than the steam pressure of the liquid, it causes flash evaporation. And cavitation occurs when the inlet pressure of the valve is higher than the steam pressure of the liquid. The noise caused by the control valve is related to the design of the valve flow path, the operating pressure and the characteristics of the controlled medium. Therefore, higher requirements are needed for reducing noise and pressure loss of regulating valves.

5. The regulating valve has strong adaptability. It is suitable for various production processes. High temperature, low temperature, high pressure, large flow, small flow and other operating conditions in the production process require the regulating valve to have various functions. This valve can meet the requirements of different applications.

6. Detecting components, transmitters, controllers, etc. develop rapidly, and more manpower and material resources are invested in the research and development of those devices. By contrast, it is generally considered that the structure of the regulating valve is simple, so relatively insufficient manpower and material resources are invested in the R & D of the regulating valve.
