The ball valve, as its name implies, uses a hollow, perforated and pivoting ball to control flow through it. For gas ball valves, gas flows through the round hole in the middle of the ball. Generally, the opening and closing of the ball valve is controlled by the valve handle. However, the ball valve can not reduce the gas consumption when the ball is in a half open state.
If the ball is in a half open state through the adjustment of the handle, in addition to the fluctuation of the gas flow passing through the hollow ball, the natural gas flow will impact the sealing surface of the ball valve for a long time, which will easily cause the sealing surface to be damaged and lead to the internal leakage of the ball valve. When the ball is in the semi-open state, it will build up the pressure and cause the valve seat to deform, thus increasing the torque.
According to the law of conservation of energy, the water requires the same quantity of heat for each degree Celsius that water temperatures increase, that is, the required total heat of gas is the same if boil the same pot of water under the condition of the same gas and use environment. Therefore, when the flames of the gas stove are adjusted to be low, the time to boil the pot of water will be correspondingly longer, which means that there is no reduction in gas consumption at all.
To sum up, the valve in a half open state can not reduce gas consumption. Moreover, due to the change of gas flow and pressure, this valve has potential safety hazards and is prone to accidents.
