Here are about the selection principle and methods of carbon steel seamless pipes.
The correct selection of seamless steel pipes is actually essential! Today we will have a proper study of this knowledge.
What are the requirements for the selection of seamless pipes for fluid transportation commonly used in our process industry? Let's take a look.
The seamless steel pipe is made without welding by hot working methods such as perforated hot rolling. If necessary, the hot-worked pipe can be further cold-worked to the pipes with the desired shape, size and performance.
At present, the seamless steel pipe (DN15-600) is the most used pipe in petrochemical production units.
Carbon steel seamless steel pipes
The main material grades:
There are 4 types: 10#, 20#, 09MnV and 16Mn
The main criteria:
GB8163 Seamless steel pipes for fluid transport
GB/T9711 Delivery technical conditions of steel pipes of oil and natural gas industry
GB6479 High pressure seamless steel pipes for fertilizer equipment
GB9948 Seamless steel pipes for petroleum cracking
GB3087 Seamless steel pipes for low and medium pressure boilers
GB/T5310 Seamless steel pipes for high-pressure boilers
GB/T8163:
Material grades: 10#, 20#, Q345, etc.
The scope of application: the designed temperature is less than 350℃. The pressure is less than 10MPa of oil, oil and public medium.
GB6479:
Material grades: 10#, 20G, 16Mn, etc.
The scope of application: the design temperature is -40-400℃ and the design pressure is 10.0-32.0MPa of oil and gas.
GB9948:
Material brands: 10#, 20#, etc.
The scope of application: it is not suitable for GB/T8163 steel pipe occasions.
GB3087:
Material brands: 10#, 20#, etc.
The scope of application: the superheated steam, boiling water and others of low and medium pressure boilers.
GB5310:
Material grades: 20G, etc.
The scope of application: the superheated steam medium of high-pressure boilers
Inspection:
Chemical composition analysis, tension test, flattening test and water pressure test must be carried out on steel pipes for general fluid transportation.
There are three kinds of standard steel pipes: GB5310, GB6479 and GB9948. The fluid transport pipe must be tested. Moreover, it is required to carry out a flaring test and impact test. The manufacturing inspection requirements of these three kinds of steel pipes are quite strict.
The GB6479 standard also makes special requirements for low temperature impact toughness of materials.
It also requires a cold bending test for GB3087 standard steel pipes, in addition to the general test requirements for fluid transport steel pipes.
According to the requirements of the agreement, GB/T8163 standard steel pipes need to carry out flaring test and cold bending test, in addition to the general test requirements for fluid transport steel pipes. The manufacturing requirements of these two kinds of pipes are not as strict as the ones of the previous three kinds.
Manufacturing:
GB/T8163 and GB3087 standard steel pipes are mostly smelted by the open hearth or converter, and there are relatively more impurities and internal defects.
GB9948 are made by electric furnace smelting. Most are added to the furnace refining process with relatively few ingredients and internal defects.
The GB6479 and GB5310 standards themselves specify the requirements for refining outside the furnace, with the minimum impurities and internal defects and the highest material quality.
The above several standards of steel pipes are manufactured in the order of quality from low to high.
GB/T8163 < GB3087 < GB9948 < GB5310 < GB6479
The selection principle:
Under normal circumstances, the GB/T8163 steel pipe is suitable for the oil and gas and public medium. The design temperature is less than 350℃. The pressure is less than 10.0MPa.
As for oil products, oil and gas medium, when the design temperature is more than 350℃ or the pressure is greater than 10.0mpa, it is appropriate to choose GB9948 or GB6479 steel pipes. GB9948 or GB6479 standard should also be used for pipelines operated near hydrogen or in stress corrosion prone environments. When using a carbon steel pipe in low temperature (less than -20℃), GB6479 steel pipes should be used. Only it specifies the requirements of low temperature impact toughness of materials.
GB3087 and GB5310 standards are specially set for boiler steel pipes.
Boilers Safety Supervision Regulations emphasized that all pipes connected with the boiler pipes belong to the scope of supervision. The application of the material and standard should comply with the rules of boiler safety. Therefore, GB3087 or GB5310 are used in the boiler, power station, heating and petrochemical production device used in public steam pipes.
It is worth noting that if the quality of steel pipe standards is good, the steel pipe prices are relatively high. For example, the material price of GB9948 is nearly 1/5 than that of GB8163. Therefore, in the selection of steel pipe material standards, it should be considered according to the conditions of use. They are both reliable and economical. It should also be noted that steel pipes in accordance with GB/T20801 and TSGD0001, GB3087 and GB8163 shall not be used in GC1 piping (unless individually ultrasonic. The quality is not less than L2.5. It can be used in GC1(1) piping whose design pressure is not greater than 4.0Mpa).
