Difference Between Carbon Steel Pipe And Stainless Steel Pipe
On this page
What is the difference between carbon steel pipe and stainless steel pipe? Let's see it in this article.

Stainless steel and carbon steel belong to one same noumenon. Both of them are steel. Steel containing only carbon is called carbon steel, while stainless steel is the steel with high alloy content to prevent rust.

1. Different manufacturing processes
Carbon steel tubes are made by forming capillary tubes from perforated ingots or solid round steel and then hot rolled, cold rolled or cold drawn. According to the shape of vertical section, stainless steel pipe can be divided into constant section pipe and variable section pipe. Variable cross-section tubes include tapered tubes, stepped tubes, periodic cross-section tubes, etc.

2. Different in nature
1. Carbon steel pipe: it is made of steel ingot or solid round steel piercing to form capillary tube, then hot rolling, cold rolling or cold drawing.
2. Stainless steel pipe: it is a kind of hollow long round steel.

3. Corrosion and wear resistance
Stainless steel is a kind of alloy which can resist weak corrosive medium (such as air, steam and water) and chemical corrosive medium (such as acid, alkali and salt). The key to this effect is the addition of chromium, a stainless steel plate element. When the content of chromium is more than 12%, oxide film is formed on the surface of stainless steel, which is commonly known as passivation film. The oxide film is not easy to dissolve in certain medium and has high isolation effect and high corrosion resistance.
Carbon steel refers to the iron carbon alloy with carbon content less than 2.11%, also known as carbon steel. It's much harder than stainless steel, but it's heavier, less malleable, and it's usually "too hard, easy to fold," and easy to rust.

4. The application is different
The raw material of carbon steel pipe is round billet. The round tube blank is cut by a cutting machine to form a blank with a length of about 1 Meter. The blank is then sent to the furnace and heated by a conveyor belt. The blank is fed into the furnace and heated at a temperature of about 1200 degrees Celsius.
Stainless steel pipe is a kind of hollow long round steel, which is widely used in petroleum, chemical, medical, food, light industry, mechanical instruments and other industrial pipelines and mechanical structural components.

5. Different characteristics
1. Carbon steel pipe: carbon steel pipe is divided into hot rolling and cold rolling (drawing) steel pipe. Hot rolled carbon steel pipe is divided into ordinary steel pipe, medium and low pressure boiler steel pipe, high pressure boiler steel pipe, alloy steel pipe, stainless steel pipe, petroleum cracking pipe, geological steel pipe, etc.

2. Stainless steel pipe: Brinell hardness is the most widely used in stainless steel pipe standard. Indentation diameter is often used to represent the hardness of materials, intuitive and convenient. However, it does not apply to steel pipes made of harder or thinner steel.
