Detailed Introduction of Square Tubes - Part Two
On this page
4. The storage methods of square tubes

I. Select suitable sites and warehouses
(1) The site or warehouse for the storage of square tubes should be in a clean place with smooth drainage, and away from factories and mines that produce harmful gas or dust. Remove weeds and all sundries on the site and keep the steel pipe clean.
(2) It is not allowed to stack together with acid, alkali, salt, cement and other corrosive materials on steel pipes in the warehouse. Different types of steel pipes should be stacked separately to avoid confusion and contact corrosion.
(3) Large section steel, rails, steel plates, large diameter steel pipes and forgings can be stacked in the open air.

(4) Small and medium section steel, wire rods, steel bars, medium diameter steel pipes, steel wires and steel wire ropes can be stored in well ventilated material sheds, but it must be covered on the top and padded on the bottom.
(5) Some small steel pipes, thin steel plates, steel strips, silicon steel sheets, small diameter or thin-walled steel pipes, various cold-rolled and cold drawn steel pipes, and metal products with high price and easy corrosion can be stored in the warehouse.
(6) The warehouse should be selected according to the geographical conditions, and the general enclosed warehouse should be adopted. That is, there are roofs, enclosures, tight doors and windows, and ventilation devices in the warehouse.
(7) The warehouse should be well ventilated and kept away from moisture on rainy days.

II. Reasonable stacking and place in line order
(1) The principle of stacking is to stack according to varieties and specifications under the condition of stable stacking and ensuring safety. Different kinds of materials should be stacked separately to prevent confusion and mutual corrosion.
(2) It is forbidden to store articles with corrosive effects on steel pipes near a stacking position.
(3) The bottom of the stack should be padded high, firmly and flat to prevent the material from moisture or deformation.

(4) The same kind of materials are stacked separately according to the warehousing sequence.
(5) For the section steel stacked in the open air, there must be wood pads or stones under it. The stacked surface should be slightly inclined to facilitate drainage. Attention should be paid to the straightness of material placement to prevent bending deformation.
(6) The stacking height should not exceed 1.2m for manual operation, 1.5m for mechanical operation and 2.5m for stacking width.

(7) There should be a certain channel between the stacks. The height of the inspection channel is generally 0.5m. The access channel depends on the material size and transportation machinery. The height is generally 1.5-2.0m.
(8) If the floor of the warehouse is cement which is face to sun, it can be padded by 0.1M. If it is muddy ground, it must be raised by 0.2-0.5m. If the warehouse is just an open field, the cement floor should be padded by 0.3-0.5m, and  the sand and mud surface should be padded by 0.5-0.7m.
(9) The angle steel and channel steel should be placed downward, that is, the I-beam should be placed vertically, and the I-channel surface of the steel pipe should not face upward so as to avoid water and rust.

III. The packaging and protective layer of protective materials
The preservative or other plating and packaging were applied before the steel delivery. This is an important measure to prevent the material from rusting. You should pay attention to the protection during transportation, loading and unloading, and the storage life of the material can be extended.

IV. Keep the warehouse clean and strengthen the material maintenance
(1) Materials should be protected from rain or impurities mixing before storage. Materials that have been soaked or contaminated should be wiped with different methods according to their properties. For example, steel wire brush can be used for high hardness materials, and cloth and cotton for low hardness materials.
(2) The materials should be inspected frequently after they are put into storage. If there is corrosion, the rust layer should be removed.
(3) Generally, it is not necessary to apply oil on the surface of steel pipes after cleaning. However, after the rust was removed, the internal and external surfaces of the steel pipe should be coated with antirust oil before storage for high-quality steel, alloy thin steel plates, thin-walled pipes, alloy steel pipes and other pipes.
(4) The steel pipe with serious corrosion should not be kept for a long time after rust removal, and it should be used as soon as possible.
