Plastic injection mold manufacturing has existed for about 100 years, while this process is constantly changing and developing, with the speedy changes in technology. Despite of the variety of changes or the methods adopted, the process is conducted in a similar way.
1. The plastic mold manufacturer goes through the specs and demands to find out the optimal mold for the final good. The mold designer then begins researching designs that would satisfy the specs and customer requirements.
2. The plastic injection mold manufacturer checks the specs and finds out the best mold material. A variety of plastics are available for the mold, for example, some kinds of plastics can resist quite higher temperatures than other plastics.
3. The plastic mold manufacturers, designers and customers examine designs and discuss whether there are ways to perfect or change them.
4. The plastic Injection mold manufacturers and designers check other aspects that need to be reviewed, such as part structure, mold structure, ventilation and cooling systems. The mold itself is not the only element that must be prepared at the start of production.
5. Once all above are confirmed, the injection mold manufacturer and designer will assess the design and set to work on the mold.
The plastic injection mold manufacturing process then go each separate way onto disparate paths, which is based upon whether or not a prototype will be involved. Generally, it is determined on the early phase of the process depending on the customer's schedule and needs. If a prototype is needed, the material adopted for the first time is usually cheaper than the material of the finished product, for the prototype mold is fabricated to be redesigned and amended according to the results of the first few products manufactured by the prototype.
After completion, the plastic injection mold manufacturer begins to evaluate the final product to make a decision on whether the mold can be manufactured to produce a product that satisfies the customer requirements. If the final product does not satisfy the customer's requests, the prototype will be modified and redesigned at this time. In general, complete finished molds are just validated because much more analysis has entered into the design before the beginning of plastic injection mold manufacturing.
