With the difference in solubility of the gas mixture in the liquid absorbent, the easily soluble components are dissolved in the absorbent and the process of separation from the other components is called absorption.

In operation, the liquid absorbent sprayed from the top of the tower is in intimate contact with the gas mixture rising from the bottom of the tower on the various layers of packing or trays for absorption.

Absorption with chemical reactions is called chemical absorption. Absorption tower by gas-liquid absorption method can be divided into surface type, membrane type, spray type and bubble type.
